The VRT (Flemish Radio- and Television Network) launched today the mobile version of two websites, De Redactie.be and Sporza.be. Aside of reading the latest national, international and sport news, you can also search for older items with the internal search engine and even listen to the previous radio bulletins on your cell phone.
Both mobile websites are fully compatible with any device on the market and available now in open beta mode. It means they’re still early prototypes that the VRT publicly releases to get feed-back from “beta testers” (i.e. yourself) before official “go live”. If you want to share your own evaluation with the VRT team, feel free to join the two dedicated Google Groups (here and here). Each opinion will be collected, assessed and, if relevant, added to the final releases. For the first time in Belgium (and even in Europe?), an e-government project uses the beta mode to take the user experience into account.
These websites are the result of a collaboration between the VRT, Siruna (formerly known as Mobixx) and the new mobile competence center of The Reference. Stay tuned for other mobile projects very soon…

Today, Keytrade Bank and Roularta launched with our help the Guru Index, a new interactive stock market based on the predictions provided by investors themselves about the evolution of the BEL 20, the Dow Jones and the euro/dollar ratio. Anyone can participate and there are some cool gifts (iPod Touch, subscriptions to Roularta magazines…) to reward each month the author of the most precise forecast. A nice example of “crowd sourcing” and a fresh way to gaug investors’ morale. In addition to the website, you can also add the Guru Index application to your Facebook profile and see its evolution in real time.
Shall you be the next guru?

A fruitful harvest for Emakina Group agencies at the WebAwards 2008 :
- “Outstanding Website” for BrusselsAirlines.com. As online sales account now for 30% in the total turnover of this airline company, we’re quite proud to build and manage this e-commerce website that will get new developments in a near future.
- Also in the “Travel” category, our French colleagues of Groupe Reflect received a “Travel Standard of Excellence” for CityShare. This website can be described as a bespoke cityguide that provides local insights (bars, restaurants…) into cities where the Novotel hotel chain is present. All of these “bunches” are brought and commented by users themselves in a “Web 2.0″ spirit.
- In the “Real Estate” category, Immoweb received a “Real Estate Standard of Excellence”. This distinction highlights the long-term relationship we’ve built over the years with the leading real estate portal in Belgium.
- Last but not least, we won a “Consulting Standard of Excellence” for the new international website of consulting company Krauthammer.
On a side note, Emakina is not the only Belgian company rewarded this year by this award competition: the folks at ContactOffice are the recipients of a “ASP Standard of Excellence” for the new Ajax version of their virtual office. Congrats!

Humans… an animal sleeps in every one of us.
Man is an animal, but he no longer knows it. But there are some who have not forgotten. Some who behave naturally, even when they are caught in the headlights. These individuals are not intimidated. Nor are they forced into excess. They are full of confidence and energy. They do only what instinct tells them to. Observed, they are animals.
It is time to reawaken our bottled-up instincts and to encourage who and what we fundamentally are. By being spontaneous, respectful and enthusiastic. By being diverse. By putting all that is pure, natural and instinctive back into the human condition.
All of which will positively contribute to our collective survival.
We are … before all else, animals.

Calendar and planning sometimes create funny coincidences. Two weeks ago, we launched a viral video to promote the Belgian release of Spore, probably one of the most advanced gaming experiences you can try on a computer screen. Today, we unveil QuittersArcade.com, a fantastic tribute that Pfizer offers to the classic arcade games you played in the eighties.
QuittersArcade.com consists of a free set of retro arcade computer games you can embed on your blog or your Facebook profile to challenge your friends. The three games available are all adaptations of well-known arcade games: Pack Man, Fogger and Bin-it!
You have two possibilities to play and share them: visit www.QuittersArcade.com or add the games to your personal blog by a simple copy-paste of a HTML snippet. Players can compete against each other, with a scoreboard for registered users. An “interblog” scoreboard lists the leading blogs and URLs.
In addition to your blog, you can also display the Pack-Man as a widget (application) on your Facebook profile and invite your friends to participate. The end goal is to encourage players to seek help from a doctor, reject smoking and all its paraphernalia and most importantly, to triumph over addiction.
Watch out the official trailer for this campaign:

Our friends of Belgique Mobile wrote a very good post on the price plan selectors that Belgian mobile operators provide on their respective websites to help you choose the rate that suits best your personal needs. We’re quite flattered by their review of the ShakerPrice we developed for Proximus.

We’re very excited to announce today the birth of Emakina/Media. This new company within Emakina Group is the first Belgian media agency that will be fully dedicated to digital media only.
Emakina/Media will act as an independent entity under the “Emakina Group” umbrella. Its team of experts will cover the full spectrum of new media through an extended portfolio of services including strategy, production and media buying. This way, we want to create for advertisers the opportunity to integrate online more efficiently, from the early stages of an advertising campaign and without any compromise with traditional media.
Emakina/Media will be run by Isabelle Driege (no doubt you know her if you’re in the interactive media business) with the double position of Partner and General Manager. Isabelle started out her career in 1999 at @dnet. She participated then as Account Director to the creation of the Belgian subsidiary of Hi-Media, one of the largest online advertising sales houses in Europe. In 2003, she left for MSN Belgium before joining Aegis Media where she founded the Belgian interactive division of this international network.
The launch of Emakina/Media strenghtens our positioning as a full service interactive agency with all the in-house capabilities to address any creative, technological or strategic challenge. Check out our official press release for further information.
